Guwahati . The voting process has started for the Assam Assembly elections under tight security under the first phase. Voting has started in 47 seats for the 126-member assembly of Assam. Here, a large number of men and women were seen standing in front of the polling stations in a queued manner from seven o’clock in the morning.
Voting will continue till six in the evening.
A total of 8,109,815 voters, including 4,032,481 women, are going to cast their votes at 11,537 polling stations, mostly from 14 districts in eastern Assam.
The fate of 264 candidates will be decided in the first phase of voting on Saturday, including Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, several of his cabinet colleagues, Assembly Speaker Hitendra Nath Goswami, state Congress chief Ripun Bora, Assam Gana Parishad chief Atul Bora, Congress Legislature Party There are 23 women candidates including Leader of the Year Devavrata Saikia, Activist Akhil Gogoi and Assam Caste Council President Lurinjyoti Gogoi.
Voters have to follow the Kovid-19 protocol during the voting process, which includes things like social distancing and thermal screening.
