Holika Dahan’s Muhurta is from 06.37 AM on Sunday till 08: 56PM. Holika Dahan is also known as Holika Deepak and Chhoti Holi. It is celebrated one night before Holi. Legend of Holika Dahan:
The most popular story is about Prahlad and the demon Holika, a devotee of Lord Vishnu. Prahlad was the son of the demon Hiranyakashyap and his wife Kayadhu. Hiranyakashipu was an enemy of Lord Vishnu. He did not want Prahlada to worship Lord Vishnu. He was against being a devotee of his son Lord Vishnu. One day, he plans to kill his son with the help of his sister Holika. Holika had a divine shawl. This shawl was gifted to Holika by Brahma Ji to save it from fire. Holika lured Prahlada to sit with him in the ravaged bonfire. But due to the grace of Lord Vishnu, the divine shawl protected Prahlada instead of Holika. So the demon Holika burnt to ashes and Prahlada came out of the fire. Hence this festival is known as Holika Dahan.
Importance of Holika Dahan:
The importance of Holika Dahan is immense. It is believed that on this day all the evils of the society come to an end. It signifies the victory of good over evils. On this day, people in the village wake up late at night and sing and dance to Holi songs.
