Lalkuan. It has become common for laborers living at the evacuation gates of the Gaula River to catch fire in the slums. Despite recovering lakhs of rupees in the name of labor welfare, the Forest Corporation is not making any arrangement for the living of the laborers. On April 2016, a huge fire broke out in the workers’ hut located at Motahldu Mining Gate. In the fire, along with the burning of about 100 huts of laborers, the wife and six-year-old son of Gulab, a resident of Jharkhand, died after burning. At that time, half a dozen vehicles of fire engines brought several rounds of water and the fire was controlled after four hours of effort. At the same time, on 20 April 2019, a fire broke out in the laborers’ hut at the Beripadao drain gate. In which the 16-day-old newborn son Raja of Gorakhpur resident Manoj Pal was burnt to death.
On March 2018 and May 2016, about a dozen huts were burnt to ashes in the Beripada mining drainage gate. It has been observed that when there is a fire, the officers and the ruling public representatives make many claims for the welfare of the workers and go away with spoils. But there is never a solution to this problem after leaving from there. After last year’s fire, the forest corporation officials and public representatives had promised to build tin sheds at the Gaula evacuation gates for the laborers to live, but till date these promises proved to be airborne.
The main link of crores of revenue with the help of promises
The Forest Corporation and the district administration have remained negligent for the welfare of the main hard laborers of the Gaula River, which gave revenue of crores of rupees to the government. Public representatives and officials keep making big claims regarding the distribution of blankets to workers, health and education of their children. But nothing appears in the ground. The workers said that after the complete cold, they were given blankets and other goods by the Forest Corporation. He too died in the fire.
