Aurangabad Those who used to do yesterday till yesterday are craving drops today. This is the situation of the rivers flowing through the district. Rivers are disappearing. If this situation prevails, only on the map will the rivers appear, not on the ground. The rivers flowing continuously, even in the summer, after breaking the rocks, are dry. It is not auspicious sign for human life. Agriculture is also being affected due to lack of water in the rivers.
Water scarcity in river village
Through the district, cracks are broken in other rivers including North Koyal, Batane, Punpun, Keshar, Adri, Batre and Jhurhi. The direct impact of the erosion of the rivers is taking place on the animals. The water level of the villages along the river is continuously falling down. Due to the disappearance of water in the rivers, the animals living in the forest are wandering and reaching the village. Actually, the flooding of the rivers has almost stopped due to no rain. The first continuous flowing rivers have become deserts today. There is no water in the rivers. The condition of Adri river, Batre and Punpun river is pathetic. The river Adri has encroached. The house has been built in the river. The authorities are not taking any action even in view of illegal mining and encroachment.
The existence of Punpun river is in danger
The Punpun River is dying due to lack of protection. The Punpun river rises near the pool of Navinagar block. From here it joins the Ganges via the Navinagar. Experts say that earlier this river used to flow incessant stream of water. But this river has become rainy. The villagers used to drink the water of this river due to the drying of chapakal in summer. Punpun has been called Adi Gange Punpun. Devotees offer ancestors in the river. This river is explained in the Puranas. Under the leadership of the then CO of Navinagar, Rana Akshay Pratap Singh, there was a campaign to encroach the Punpun river, but it remained a mere supply. Encroachment removed on file itself. It is known that the length of the river from the point of origin to Navinagar is about 11.5 km. The river passes through dozens of villages including Saraiya, Bara, Khajuri, Tandwa and Basadiha in Bihar and Jharkhand. The Punpun Festival is organized to save the existence of the Punpun River and to highlight the importance and glory. Mahotsav Committee Chairman Abhay Vaidya, Secretary Rajesh Aggarwal, Shankar Prasad and Arun Kumar Singh said that the existence of Punpun River needs to be saved. For this, the government and officials will have to be aware. If the condition of the Punpun river improves, it will become a life-partner for hundreds of villages. Villagers said that if the erosion of the river is directly affecting the villages. The water level is falling day by day.
No benefits from North Koel project
In 1972, the North Koel project blueprint was prepared to irrigate 1.25 lakh hectares of land. Then only Rs 30 crore would have been spent on the project. Currently, more than Rs 900 crore has been spent on this project, but the project is incomplete. How many generations have passed in 46 years, but will not live on the ear of power and order. The pace of the project has increased, but the work is not visible on the ground. Kutku dam is to be constructed in Jharkhand, but it has not been done yet. Till the gate is not installed in the dam, the farmers will not get enough water from the canal. Even after crores of rupees were spent, water could not reach the farmers’ fields. Farmers Murarik Yadav of Jamunia village of Madanpur block, Rajesh Yadav of Sijuahi, Shivnarayan Yadav, Amarjeet Kumar, Ashish Yadav of Chilhami, Shivdutt Yadav and Rampravesh Yadav of Ratanuya told that the eyes have pelted with water.
Everyone will have to come together ahead
The Executive Engineer of PHED, Rajeev Kumar, says the river is a lifeline. It is the responsibility of all to save it. We are losing our relationship with some human mistake rivers. The water level is falling down. Efforts are being made to save it. The drying up of the rivers is affecting the villages. Currently the water level is 24 feet.
