Haldwani: The work of building a security wall on the banks of Lake Harishtal on Hadakhan Road in Nainital district has reached the final stage. The irrigation department is claiming completion of construction by the end of this financial year. At the same time, preparations have been started to develop the lake as tourism. The Chief Engineer has sent a letter to the Executive Engineer asking him to make a proposal.
The Harishtala lake situated on the Hadakhan road is naturally beautiful. In order to conserve this lake, the irrigation department had sent a proposal to build a 770 meter long safety wall around it under the Quick Benefit Irrigation Scheme. The scheme was approved in the year 2013-14. Its total cost was 252.10 lakhs. At that time the state government gave its share of 25.20 lakh rupees to the irrigation department, but the work was stuck due to lack of centrality. At that time, the establishment was able to construct only 370 meters of the wall. Three months ago, the central government has allocated Rs 94.63 lakh to the irrigation department with the approval of Rs 226.90 lakh.
According to the official sources of the department, 45 lakh rupees have been paid from this amount for the work done in the year 2013-14. Along with this, the remaining work of building the security wall has also been completed 75 percent. The work will be completed by the end of the financial year. Remaining amount is also expected to be received from the center this month. The Chief Engineer informed that the construction of a security wall in Lake Harishtal will solve the irrigation problem of the surrounding area.
Chief Engineer, Irrigation Department Sanjay Shukla said that the work of constructing a security wall around Lake Harishtal under the quick benefit irrigation scheme of the Central Government has reached the final stage. Irrigation Minister Satpal Maharaj has asked to develop the lake for tourism. A letter has been written to the Executive Engineer to propose tourism possibilities.
Construction of 24 canals of Gowalwar is almost complete
The Central Government has started giving its share on the proposal to construct 64 canals in the year 2013-14 under the rapid benefit irrigation of the Central Government. However, in five years, 27 canals are being constructed to increase the cost of the schemes. About 90 percent of their work has been completed. Canal construction will be completed in this financial year. According to the irrigation department, in 2013-14, the center approved a plan of Rs 694.31 lakh to build 64 canals. Three months ago, with the approval of Rs. 528.28 lakh, the Center has given Rs. 79.17 lakh to the Irrigation Department. At the same time, with the increase in the cost of construction of canals, now 24 km long canals are being constructed in Gowalwar region with this amount. It includes the area of Haldwani block and Kotabagh block.
