New Delhi. Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora will retire from his post on April 30, the next day after overseeing assembly elections in five states. Assembly elections for five states, including Bengal, Assam and Kerala, have been announced. Voting will be held in these states from March 27 to April 29. Announcing the assembly election dates at Vigyan Bhawan on Friday, Arora said that this is his last press conference.
He said that he was satisfied with his tenure as the Chief Election Commissioner. He conducted 11 major elections, including the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. He termed assembly elections in Bihar as historic during the corona virus epidemic. Arora said, you can say that I played a good innings. I also got good support from Election Commissioners and other allies. Where elections will be held in how many stages
The Election Commission has announced a phased program for all states. A decision has been taken to hold elections in Bengal in eight phases. Earlier in Bengal elections were held here in seven phases. With this, elections will be held in three phases in Assam. While assembly elections will be held in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Union Territory of Puducherry in one phase each.
