Many teams have announced their captains for IPL 2025. Now Rishabh Pant is almost certain to get the captaincy of Lucknow Super Giants. Pant was bought by the Lucknow team for Rs 27 crore in the mega auction, making him the most expensive player in the history of the Indian Premier League. So far KL Rahul was seen leading LSG for the last 3 seasons, who has now joined Delhi Capitals.
Lucknow Super Giants made their IPL debut in the year 2022, after which the team reached the playoffs 2 times in a row under the captaincy of KL Rahul. But after the team’s poor performance in IPL 2024, the LSG franchise released Rahul. Now a report by ESPN Cricinfo has revealed that Pant is almost certain to become the captain and it can also be announced very soon. Rishabh Pant was earlier captaining the Delhi Capitals, and under him Delhi finished sixth last year.
If Rishabh Pant is made the captain now, he will be leading famous and strong players like David Miller, Nicholas Pooran, Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram. After the mega auction, Pooran, Mitchell Marsh, David Miller and even Markram were being seen as an option for captaincy. Let us remind you that before the mega auction, the Lucknow team had decided to retain Nicholas Pooran, Ayush Badoni, Ravi Bishnoi, Mayank Yadav and Mohsin Khan. If Rishabh Pant becomes the captain, he will be working with coach Justin Langer, while for IPL 2025, Lucknow had appointed Zaheer Khan as its new mentor.
