Aligarh. Principal of Women’s College of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Prof. Naima Khatoon has become the new Vice Chancellor. This is the first time in the history of AMU that a woman has been made the Vice Chancellor.
Five months ago the panel was sent to the President i.e. the Visitor. Everyone’s eyes were on this. After the permission of the Election Commission, this letter has been issued by the Ministry of Education. On Monday night, he met Acting Vice Chancellor Prof. Mo. Also took charge from Gulrez. Pro. Gulrez is her husband.
After the completion of the VC panel process in AMU in November, Prof. Faizan Mustafa, Prof. MU Rabbani and Prof. Naima Khatoon’s name was sent to the Union Education Ministry. In view of the code of conduct regarding the Lok Sabha elections, it was being speculated that orders for the appointment of the Vice Chancellor would be issued only after the elections. Orders in this regard were issued on Monday night.
Was principal of women’s college for 10 years
Pro. Naima Khatoon served as Professor and Chair of the Department of Psychology before joining as Principal of the Women’s College in July 2014. He has been a professor since July 2006. She was Associate Professor from April 1998 and Lecturer from August 1988. He has a PhD degree in Political Psychology.
Other Achievements
Presently appointed as the Director of Center for Skill Development and Career Planning, AMU since October 2015. He has participated and presented papers in many national and international conferences.
He has also visited and lectured at the University of Louisville, USA. He has authored, co-authored and edited six books and published several papers in journals of national and international repute.
He has supervised 15 Ph.D. Also worked as Deputy Coordinator of UGC aided Special Assistance Program on Spiritual Psychology in the Department of Psychology, AMU.
Apart from academicians, Prof. Naima Khatoon has wide experience in educational administration. He served as provost in Indira Gandhi Hall and twice in Abdullah Hall. He also served as Deputy Director of Residential Coaching Academy and Deputy Proctor of AMU. She was elected twice to the Women’s College Students’ Union.
He has also held the position of Literary Secretary and Senior Hall Monitor of both Abdullah Hall and Sarojini Naidu Hall. She was awarded the Papa Mian Padma Bhushan Best Girl Award for her all-round excellence.
Got the least votes in the panel
After the meeting of AMU’s EC and Court, Prof. in the final panel. MU Rabbani got maximum 61 votes. Pro. Faizan Mustafa 53 and Prof. Naima Khatoon got 50 votes. This panel is headed by Acting Vice Chancellor Prof. It was formed under the chairmanship of Mohammad Gulrez. Pro. Gulrez, Prof. Naima is Khatoon’s husband.
The matter is pending in the High Court
Prof. of Jamia Millia Islamia alleging irregularities in the Vice Chancellor’s panel. Syed Murtaza Rizvi had filed a petition in the High Court. In this case, Prof. of JN Medical College. Mujahid Baig had also filed a petition.
Both the petitions are being heard together in the High Court. The court had said in one of its orders that the court’s order will be effective even after the appointment of the Vice-Chancellor. The date of April 29 is fixed in this case. Pro. Rumors of Naima Khatoon becoming the Vice Chancellor were posted on the internet media.
The post was lying vacant for one year
The post of AMU Vice Chancellor was lying vacant from April 2, 2023. Former Vice Chancellor Prof. Tariq Mansoor had resigned. He is currently the National Vice President and MLC of BJP. In his place, Co-Vice Chancellor Prof. Mohammad Gulrez was given the responsibility of acting Vice Chancellor in his place. More than a year has passed since his tenure. Pro. Tariq Mansoor had got an extension of one year after the tenure of the Vice Chancellor ended on May 17, 2022.
The first woman Vice Chancellor of AMU, Prof. Dr. Annapurna Bharti has congratulated on becoming Naima Khatoon. He said that this will strengthen the women empowerment program of PM Narendra Modi. Will cooperate in every way in the all-round development of AMU. The identity of the university will improve.
