New Delhi: Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) mentor and BJP MP Gautam Gambhir is preparing to join his old franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL. Dainik Jagran was the first to report that the former KKR captain may leave LSG. Gambhir met Shah Rukh Khan at his bungalow Mannat in Mumbai on Wednesday night. This meeting lasted for about one and a half hours.
Recently, LSG had posted on X that Gambhir would be retained as its global mentor in the next season, but KKR sources say that the former captain, who was associated with the Kolkata team from 2011 to 2017 and was appointed captain twice. Gambhir, who won the IPL trophy, seems very serious about his old team.
a long conversation ensued
KKR source said that in the long meeting between Gambhir and Shahrukh, the future of KKR, retention of players and dropping of some players were also discussed. Gambhir posted on X and described Shah Rukh as the king not only of Bollywood but also of hearts. Nitish Rana, who captained KKR last season due to injury to Shreyas Iyer, wrote on Gambhir’s post, ‘True kings of their respective fields. Is this a sign of homecoming?
Such is the situation in LSG
KKR’s performance in the last two seasons has not been very good. This team finished seventh in both the seasons while the newly joined IPL LSG has reached the playoffs in two consecutive seasons. LSG does not want to leave Gambhir at any cost while BJP MPs do not want to be associated with LSG anymore.
elections will play a role
The source said that this is the first official meeting of Gambhir and Shah Rukh since 2017. Meanwhile, both of them met at some players’ auction or event but did not discuss each other. This is the first time in six years that both of them sat together and talked for such a long time on cricket issues. Now everything will depend on when the 2024 Lok Sabha elections will be held.
Will be busy in serious campaigning
He is also a serious MP and is ready to fight in the next elections also. IPL will also happen around the same time. Apart from his parliamentary seat, Gambhir will also have to campaign for BJP at other places as a campaigner. In such a situation, he will be able to find time for IPL only when he has time or the IPL schedule does not clash with the general elections.
