Former Uttar Pradesh minister Haji Yakub Qureshi has been arrested by the Crime Branch of Meerut Police from Delhi. The former minister was staying with his son in a guest house located in the Chandni Mahal police station area of Delhi. IG Meerut had declared a reward of 50-50 thousand rupees against Haji Yakub Qureshi and his son, who were absconding for nine months. Since then, apart from Meerut Police, STF was also raiding in search of him.
Police said that behind former minister Yakub Qureshi and his son Imran, police were continuously monitoring through manual and electronic surveillance. Meanwhile, on Saturday morning, concrete information was received that both of them are hiding in the guest house of Delhi. After getting their exact location, the police squad raided the guest house and arrested both of them. Today the police will present both of them in the court after necessary enquiry. During this, the police will also try to take PCR (police custody remand) of both.
Questions raised on arrest
Even though the Meerut police is claiming to have arrested Yakub Qureshi and his son Imran Qureshi through their surveillance, but there is a discussion in the department itself that the police have not shot any arrows in this. Rather, Yakub Qureshi himself has given his arrest by setting up with the Meerut police. It is being told that Yakub Qureshi has done this for his own safety after the bail application was rejected by the High Court.
