“I didn’t get an invitation”
Akhilesh said he has not received the invitation for the Congress’s ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ and asserted that both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress are one. On the question of former Congress President Rahul Gandhi being invited by the Congress for the Bharat Jodo Yatra, Akhilesh Yadav said on Thursday that our feelings are with his visit, I have not received any invitation for the visit. He told the journalist who asked the question, “If you have an invitation on your mobile, give it to me immediately.”
Yadav said “The principle of our party is different, Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress both are one.” The Congress has said it has invited several leaders of non-BJP parties, including Akhilesh Yadav, BSP chief Mayawati and RLD’s Jayant Chowdhary, to participate in Rahul Gandhi’s yatra to Uttar Pradesh starting January 3.
Samajwadi Party spokesperson Rajendra Chowdhary had earlier said that Akhilesh Yadav is unlikely to participate in the Congress yatra due to his “preoccupation” with party programmes. Asked whether any other party leader would participate in the yatra, Choudhary said there has been no discussion in this regard in the party. The RLD chief is also unlikely to participate in the yatra. RLD’s chief spokesperson Anil Dubey said, “I don’t think Jayantji will join the yatra.”
