New Delhi. After the decision of the Supreme Court, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will soon meet in which the date of the Annual General Meeting (AGM) and elections will be determined. It is certain that like last time, this time also the election will be unanimous. If nothing unexpected happens, it is almost certain that current BCCI President Sourav Ganguly will not contest the next election. In such a situation, Jai Shah and Rajiv Shukla can nominate the two top posts (President and Secretary) of BCCI.
Jai is currently the BCCI secretary while Shukla is the vice-president. Arun Singh Dhumal can re-nominate for the post of treasurer. At present, Jayesh George is the Joint Secretary and Brijesh Patel is the IPL Chairman. These two positions may also be subject to change. Despite being a Rajya Sabha MP after the constitutional amendment, Shukla can contest the next election. Now only ministers and government officials cannot contest the BCCI and state union elections. Earlier it was applicable to MPs and MLAs also. If all goes well, Ganguly may contest for the post of chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC) to be held in November this year. However, in the race for this post, former BCCI and ICC President N. Srinivasan’s name is also going on. The tenure of current ICC chairman Greg Barkley is ending soon.
Barkley expressed his desire for another term at the annual conference in Birmingham. During this, the process of electing the new chairman was also decided, in which the requirement of two-thirds vote was abolished. According to the new provision, the candidate who secures 51 percent of the votes will be considered the winner. In this way, after getting the votes of nine members of the 16-member board, the candidate will become the winner. In view of this, the BCCI has recently organized several tours of the Indian team, so that the votes of those countries can be given to India in the ICC.
The Supreme Court on Wednesday approved the BCCI’s constitutional amendment petition, after which it has now become clear that an office-bearer can hold office for six consecutive years in the BCCI even after six years in the state union. Most of the state associations are in favor of making Jai the BCCI president. A BCCI official said that nothing has been decided yet. Soon a meeting of BCCI will be called in which a decision will be taken on the date of AGM and elections. You can’t say anything till the nominations are done. Some changes will happen. It is so certain that whatever happens will be unanimous.
