Prayagraj. CBI arrested an inspector of the regional office of Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) on Saturday night. He was taking bribe from a businessman of Kaushambi district for registration in CGST. The CBI team kept searching for the second accused inspector in the case at many possible places in the city till late Sunday evening, but he could not be found.
His flat located in Civil Lines was sealed. A businessman living in Kaushambi had applied online to register his company in CGST. CGST Inspector Anil Kumar Matlani talked to the businessman on the phone to complete the verification formalities. After this, there was conversation between the two several times.
The businessman had complained to CBI
It is alleged that a bribe of ten thousand rupees was demanded. He was asked to contact CGST Inspector Harishankar Saroj to give the money. The troubled businessman complained to CBI. CBI officials investigated in a confidential manner.
On May 3, Saturday, the CBI registered a case against Inspector Anil Kumar Matlani and Harishankar Saroj. A trap was laid to catch both of them red-handed. As soon as the businessman gave money to Harishankar Saroj, he was caught by the CBI officials.
Anil’s flat was sealed
During interrogation, he told that he had taken the money on the instructions of Anil Kumar Matlani. When the team reached Anil Matlani’s flat in Panchsheel Colony and Tulsiani Apartment, the lock was closed. He had fled. The flat was sealed on Sunday morning.
According to CBI officials
The arrested accused Harishankar Saroj will be presented in the court of Special Judge, Anti-Corruption, CBI Court No. 1, Lucknow. The second accused Anil Kumar Matlani is being searched. Along with this, the investigation of the entire case is also going on.
