Isanagar (Lakhimpur). The lower part of the water tank built under Jal Jeevan Mission six months ago in Sheikhpur village burst. The villagers were sitting in their homes, they came out of their houses when the tank burst. Some aware people made a video of it and circulated it on the internet. The village and fields got submerged due to the strong stream of water coming out of the tank. There was a stampede among the people. The wheat stored in the fields has also been damaged.
When the water tank burst with a loud explosion on Saturday afternoon, the villagers accused the implementing agency of corruption. It is said that the water tank was built by the implementing agency (BTL) under Jal Jeevan Mission at a cost of three and a half crores. Its trial work is still going on.
Solar panel destroyed
On Saturday, the overhead tank of the water tank burst with a loud explosion. It was a coincidence that there was no one around the tank at that time. Its water broke the wall of the premises and flowed into the wheat field of nearby villager Roshan Lal, drowning the wheat crop. Also, the debris of the tank demolished the solar panel installed in the tank premises.
Very poor work was done in the construction of the tank: Villagers
The village head informed the DM in the district including the administration. According to the villagers, very poor work was done in the construction of the tank. The iron sheet tank made for the overhead tank was made very poor. The standards were completely ignored in the construction of the tank.
It is being told that water was to be supplied to five villages including Sheikhpur Sultanapur Sandaurakhurd from this tank. The construction of the tank was started in October 2022. People tell that the contractor had started the supply by getting the tank constructed in an atmosphere of chaos.
The village head said that the people of the implementing agency were repeatedly pressuring to hand over the water tank. But due to being incomplete, the handover has not been taken yet. The people of the implementing agency were not able to face the villagers. He kept avoiding answering everyone.
Here, Executive Engineer of Jal Nigam YK Neeraj says that the water tank was not handed over, so the organization will have to do the work again. He said that the matter of tank bursting six months ago will be investigated.
